Understand a slower pace on a harder day
Two runs at the same effort can produce different average paces. Before treating a slower session as lost fitness, look at the conditions you ran through.
What “pace in ideal conditions” means
Running Browser estimates the pace a run might correspond to on flat, paved ground in mild, dry and windless conditions. It starts with your recorded pace and applies the same conditions model used in the training log and Strava description feature.
Wind, climbing, unpaved terrain, temperature and rain or snow each contribute a modeled cost. These costs combine into one adjustment; the result is an estimate, not a replacement for the activity you recorded.
Check the inputs before the result
The calculation depends on distance, pace and the conditions entered or obtained for the activity. Total elevation gain does not describe every gradient, and a weather observation does not describe every sheltered street.
The free calculator lets you change one input at a time. Leave hills and terrain at zero if you want to isolate weather. Use the combined result when you want to explore the whole run.
Compare similar sessions
An easy run and an interval workout have different purposes. Use the estimate alongside the workout category, notes and how the run felt. Do not interpret a few seconds of adjustment as a precise measurement of fitness.
The public calculator uses the default condition thresholds. Your account can have different thresholds in Settings, so a personalized result may differ.
Let the log keep the context
After creating an account and connecting Strava, Running Browser can use activity and available conditions data to calculate this estimate in the log. You can also choose to include the estimate in the description of synced Strava activities.
Keep the plan and the run together
Use the free training log and planner. Create an account to save your running across devices, then connect Strava from Settings → Integrations.
